Using the topic of “fallow land,” the German-Croatian exchange aims to raise awareness of the structural weaknesses of rural regions shaped by historical and political factors, as well as of different possibilities for shared use.

The project seeks to explore social commonalities and differences through film, theatre, and music, and to strengthen non-discriminatory, solidarity-based communication and interaction. Individual knowledge, experience, and competencies are taken into account, while interest, talent, and collaboration are actively encouraged.

The participants spend time in rural settings and meet peers from Germany and Croatia, some from urban and some from rural backgrounds. Guided by three experienced filmmakers, theatre-makers, and musicians, they work on the topic of “Brache” in the form of workshops during a ten-day stay for each encounter. Accordingly, there are three facilitated workshops, divided by artistic discipline (performance/theatre, music, and film). Ideally, the results of the working groups come together at the end in an interdisciplinary format, but they may also be presented as, for example, a film, musical, or performance-based work.
